The Dendrobates Pumilio Bastimentos are definitely a very fun frog to watch, especially during the acts of breeding and raising their young. While the males are extremely vocal and do their calling from the top of the tank for most of the day, the females are the ones to tend to the clutches. Do not take this to mean that the males are inattentive, however, for the male Basti can often be found hopping about in an agitated manner as he "explains" (again, extremely vocal) to the female Basti exactly when to transport the brood and where specifically to place them. This agitated (and animated!) ritual will be repeated any time the male feels that the brood should be fed, which is accomplished by the female laying eggs in the water for the young Bastis to feed on until they have grown into miniature versions of their parents.
Currently I am working with three breeding groups of Pumilio Bastimentos... one orange, one red, and one yellow morph. In my experience so far, the Bastis seem to prefer temperatures in the mid-range or upper seventies (or at least that is when I've found the most clutches to be laid and tended for).Twenty second sonogram detailing the call of the Dendrobates Pumilio Bastimentos:
